Hi,

Not sure if this is in the right forum, looking for some advise if possible about VRT and have a few questions..

I currently live in derry, N Ireland and work as a self employed driving instructor. I own 2 cars, and use both for instructing under my UK driving school insurance policy which are both registered to my house here in derry. My partner also uses one of the cars a few times a week and is covered under the policy.

I am moving to letterkenny co donegal in a few weeks and was wondering if i needed to register one or both the cars in ireland. I still intend using both cars for my business in Derry. 1 car will be parked at home in letterkenny for the full week as i will be staying there every night, whilst my partner will be staying in letterkenny around 3/4 nights a week meaning 2nd car will be there 3 or 4 nights a week (partner staying in our house in derry the other few nights).

I have been told i am exempt from VRT as my business is run from the north can anyone confirm this is the case and is my 2 business cars exempt?

or will only 1 car be exempt?

will my partner (and 2nd car) not be there long enough to be classed as permanent or exempt due to saying only 3/4 nights a week?

also towards the end of the year i may change one of the cars over to donegal reg (to teach in ireland) will i have to pay VRT or is it exempt as its been registered in UK for 6 month prior?

thanks

vinny
